Course Description

The aim of this 9.5-day training course is to equip participants with comprehensive working skills necessary for the practice of Infection Control and Epidemiology.

An outstanding teaching faculty of infection control experts and experienced practitioners (both from local & overseas) chosen for their topical expertise and teaching experience will conduct this course. The topics covered will be highly relevant and up-to-date.

Key topics include:

  • Use of statistics and quality tools
  • Infection Prevention and  Control, and Quality
  • Epidemiology
  • Bacteriology
  • Product Evaluation
  • Implementing Guidelines
  • Surveillance
  • Setting up an Infection Prevention and Control Programme

Learning strategies consist of lectures, panel discussions, small group discussions, case scenarios and Q&A. This course is also complemented by site visits to local hospitals for better understanding of the applicability of the knowledge learnt during the course. The APSIC course is also a platform for networking opportunities and knowledge sharing.

Course Objectives

At the end of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Set up and run an Infection Control program at their own facilities
  • Understand and apply various surveillance techniques and control of health-associated infections
    and antimicrobial resistant organisms
  • Apply quality improvement principles and tools in bringing their programs to a higher level of
    quality and safety

Certification

Only candidates who fulfil the minimum attendance requirement of 90% will be eligible to sit for the written examination. A certificate will be issued to each participant upon successful completion of the written examination.

This Basic Training Course is recognised by the University of New South Wales, Australia, for 6 credit points towards its Graduate Certificate in Health Services Management – Hospital Epidemiology for Infection Control. CME/CNE points will be credited to Singapore registered healthcare personnel accordingly.
